Stories from the Road - Tourism Photography in Lacombe County

For me tourism photography is around 70% good planning, and 30% being present and seeing what unfolds in front of you. Letting curiosity take the wheel and being ready to pull over at a moments notice. Being ok with passing a place by if it just isn’t giving you the right vibes. I have captured magical moments in mundane places, and been unmoved by some of the must see attractions. For as long as I can remember I have loved to travel…

Banks & Braes - On Being Whisked Back in Time

Banks & Braes - On Being Whisked Back in Time

My wheels crunched over gravel in the evening summer heat as I pulled into the English country-house style B&B in Rosebud, AB, cleverly named Banks & Braes. I was a few minutes late, so I had hurried along the highway downing coffee in preparation for the night of star photography that lay ahead of me. I had been hired to capture the dark skies above the artistic theatre town of Rosebud nestled into a valley about 30 minutes south of Drumheller, and had been told this place was a must see.

Revelations of Isolation

Revelations of Isolation

I found myself feeling unsettled and irritated. I’ve talked in the past about weighing too much of my self worth on how productive I can be, and here I was doing the same thing to myself during such an unknown time. One day after turning off the TV in boredom and annoyance, I asked myself “What is the best use of my time?”

And to my surprise, I heard a reply.

The Many Facets of Marc Lynch

The Many Facets of Marc Lynch

When an e-mail showed up in my inbox from a local writer who was looking to create some “odd” portraits, I jumped at the chance. I sat down with Marc Lynch for a quick beer at Two House Brewing and quickly learned he is one of the true eccentrics of this world…

You Are Enough

You Are Enough

In a world where we are inundated by idealized perfection perpetuated by social media, TV, advertising, etc. sometimes it’s hard not to hold ourselves up to some unrealistic standard and ask ourselves the question: “Am I Enough?”. I myself have had a bad habit of measuring my self worth by what I accomplish and the level of success of those things. Its taken a lot of work to get comfortable with who I am and recognize that I am not what I do. But I still have days where I can’t help but compare myself to others, especially those who are doing the things I want to be doing, successfully…

The Best of 2019

The Best of 2019

I can’t believe 2019 is almost over! It has been such a special and exciting year for me personally and for my business, and I am so incredibly grateful for all the learning, triumphs and challenges this year has brought me. So grateful in fact that I felt like I needed to tip my hat to a small sample of my favorite client moments…

Whirly Bird - "Relax" - My First Music Video

I’m so damn excited to share this with you all.

Last January my resolution for 2018 was to shoot more video. So when my friend Whirly Bird asked me to come to Tofino to shoot a music video for her, I jumped at the chance. I was up front with her that I had never shot a music video before and was only starting to mess around with video editing software. But for some reason, she had faith in me. And boy, am I glad she did.

Grotto Canyon - Gurl Guide Style

Grotto Canyon - Gurl Guide Style

Ever since living and working in BC, I seem to need more time immersed in nature. I've taken a few short winter hikes lately to try to alleviate this desire and break up the long quiet days at home. On Family Day, I found myself carefully strolling up Grotto Canyon's icy creek bed with Ian Busby and the Canmore based adventure/comedy videographers Mia Mucci & Randi Wardle (Aka "Gurl Guides")…
